According to WHO Guidance, provision of CPT is one of the core post-test services that should be made available to all HIV positive adult clients or patients, either by referral or direct provision of service

CPT is a cost-effective readily available intervention in HIV treatment. It is associated with reduced HIV related morbidity and mortality and it has beneficial effects on CD4-cell count and viral load.

In a Kenyan study, CPT improved retention in care adults ineligible to ART by over 20% after one year when compared with retention before. Integrating CPT program in all HTC activities can enhance linkage to care and treatment services for the MARPs clients newly testing positive to HIV.
